War of the World is an Extra Large 144 by 144 map for Shadow of Death, with an underground level and a Hard difficulty rating. Five players can take part, with up to four human players and one computer-only color, Pink, which plays the Conflux. There are no teams. Each human-capable player starts with two town types, drawn from Rampart, Stronghold, Necropolis, Dungeon, Castle, Tower, Inferno and Fortress. Victory requires defeating every enemy, and a player loses once all their towns and heroes are gone. About a fifth of the map is water, with grass, rough and dirt ground making up most of the rest. The map holds 29 towns, 116 mines, 35 seer huts, 26 creature banks and 23 monoliths or portals, plus a long list of placed artifacts.
