Eight players share the map, with one human seat at most and the other seven controlled by the computer, grouped into three teams. Every player begins with a random faction. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player is eliminated after losing all towns and heroes. About a quarter of the map is water, with grass, subterranean and sand terrain covering much of the rest. The author describes it as a long, monster-filled practice ground before a larger conflict. Notable features include 40 towns, 138 mines, 78 creature banks, a Grail, dragon stacks roaming the land, and the artifact Titan's Thunder.
