The Lord of the Rings is a medium 72 by 72 map for Heroes of Might and Magic III: Restoration of Erathia, with an underground level and a Normal difficulty setting. It supports eight players, with up to six controlled by humans, and the remaining two colors, Green and Orange, are computer-only. Players form three teams and are split across eight factions, from Castle and Tower to Dungeon, Inferno and Necropolis. Victory comes from defeating all enemies, and a player loses once every town and hero is gone. Nearly half the map is water, with subterranean, dirt and lava ground making up much of the rest. Ten towns and ten starting heroes are placed, and the map is scattered with wandering monster stacks, creature dwellings, mines, seer huts, and a number of named artifacts.
