The Lord of the Rings is a medium 72 by 72 map with an underground level, built for the Restoration of Erathia version at Normal difficulty. It casts eight factions as rival nations competing for control of Middle Earth, with Castle, Tower, Rampart, Dungeon, Inferno, Necropolis, Stronghold, and Fortress all represented. Up to six people can play, while the Green and Orange colors are computer-only, and the eight players form three teams. Nearly half the map is water, with subterranean, dirt, and lava terrain covering much of the rest. Ten towns and ten heroes start the game, and the map includes fifteen placed artifacts, fifty mines, and thirteen seer huts. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player is eliminated after losing every town and hero.
