The Balkans — SoD

The Balkans is an extra large underground map for eight players, set on a 144 by 144 grid with rock, grass and water covering the terrain in roughly equal shares for rock and a smaller share of water. The author frames it as a deliberately harsh region and invites players to pick a nation and eliminate all rivals. Eight players fill the map, all of them human-capable, arranged into six teams, and the factions include Rampart, Tower, Castle, Inferno, Necropolis, Stronghold and Conflux. Victory requires defeating every enemy, and a player loses once all towns and heroes are gone. Notable features include a Grail, eighteen towns, a large number of random monster stacks, and placed artifacts such as the Sentinel's Shield and the Sword of Judgement. The difficulty is set to Impossible, and the author labels it an expert map.
