When Champions Fail is a small 36 by 36 map for one human player and one computer-controlled opponent, set in a land where the kingdom's cavaliers have been wiped out by the dragon Firefang. The computer side plays as Red, a Castle town, while the human plays as Green with a random faction. Both sides are on their own, with no teams. The map is rated hard and is played on the surface only. Grass covers most of the terrain, with water, swamp and rough ground making up much of the rest. Each side has two towns and three heroes, and the wandering armies include a Red Dragon, Ice and Magic Elementals, and a Lizardman stack, along with several artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade and the Titan's Gladius. Victory requires slaying a specific monster, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes.
