Veteran Heroes is a small two-player map measuring 36 by 36 tiles, set in an underground level at Normal difficulty and built for the Restoration of Erathia version. Two human players can take part, with no teams and no computer-only colors. Red plays Stronghold and Blue plays Fortress. The map's terrain is mostly swamp, rock, grass and lava, with no water. Each side starts with two heroes, and the map holds two towns, nineteen wandering monster stacks, twelve mines, two monoliths or portals, seven randomly placed artifacts and a Boots of Speed. Victory comes from defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. The description frames the contest as a duel across a maze-like land, with a long march between the two castles.
