Underground is an extra large, hard map set entirely beneath the surface, spanning 144 by 144 tiles, with mostly rock and subterranean ground and only a sliver of water. Six players share the field, with up to six human participants and three teams: red and purple, green and teal, and blue and pink. Factions are assigned randomly to every player. Victory requires defeating all enemies, while a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Six towns are scattered across the map, and only one hero is placed at the start. Wandering monsters include many Infernal Troglodytes, Fire and Air Elementals, and Minotaurs, and the Grail is hidden somewhere on the map. Dwellings, mines, creature banks, and several artifacts add to the exploration.
