Training Grounds is an Extra Large 144 by 144 map for Shadow of Death with underground levels, rated Expert. Up to eight human players can take part, with no teams, and victory requires defeating all enemies. Red and Pink start with random towns, while the other six colors choose from Castle, Rampart, Tower, Inferno, Dungeon, Stronghold, Fortress, and Conflux. Necropolis is reserved for Red and Pink. Players lose when they have no towns or heroes left. About a fifth of the terrain is water, and subterranean ground makes up 38 percent. Notable features include the Grail, 79 mines, 56 creature banks, and 16 monoliths and portals. The author's note invites players to claim the waters and become the strongest hero.
