Thousand Islands is an extra large map of 144 by 144 tiles with an underground level. Water covers about 68 percent of its surface and grass about 20 percent. The story places the players among former rulers of Erathia, whose continent has broken into countless islands after wizards experimented with a new spell, and asks them to help rebuild it. Eight players can take part, all of them human-capable, with no teams and random factions for each. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player is eliminated after losing all towns and heroes. The map contains 35 towns, 197 random monster stacks, 57 mines, and artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade and the Helm of Chaos. Difficulty is set to normal.
