The Flying Dutchman — RoE

Overview

Written from the facts in this map's file

The Flying Dutchman is a medium-sized map of 72 by 72 tiles with an underground level, rated hard and designed for one human player against seven computer opponents, with no teams. The author's description casts the player as a cursed sailor who must break a long-standing curse and return home, and the map is set in the Restoration of Erathia version of the game. Players of the eight colors field Castle, Dungeon, Stronghold, Fortress, and Rampart towns, with three of the nine towns and three heroes placed at the start. Rock covers nearly half the terrain, with water making up about a sixth. Notable features include a Chaos Hydra and a Wyvern Monarch among the wandering monsters, a Celestial Necklace of Bliss and Dragon Scale Armor placed on the map, and twelve creature banks. Victory requires capturing a specific town, and defeat occurs if a specific hero is lost.

Author's description

You are the Flying Dutchman, accursed to sail on the seas until someone falls in love with you and loves nobody else in her life. The curse seems to be wearing off, though - you can stay on land as long as you wish. Now it's time to break the curse and get home after all these centuries.
