The Empire of the World is an Extra Large 144x144 map for Shadow of Death with an underground level, rated Hard. It is built for eight players, seven of them computer-controlled, with only one human seat available and no teams. The factions on the field span most of the game's castles, including Dungeon, Conflux, Stronghold, Castle, Rampart, Tower, Inferno, Necropolis and Fortress, spread across the colors. Roughly a third of the terrain is water, with lava, grass and swamp making up the rest in equal shares. Victory requires defeating all enemies, while the player loses if a specific hero falls. Along the way are 45 towns, 89 mines, 51 creature banks, 18 seer huts, 12 monoliths and portals, and the Grail. Wandering Phoenixes, Peasants and Arch Devils roam the land, and artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade and the Boots of Speed are placed across it.
