First Hardships is a large underground map measuring 108 by 108 tiles, made for Restoration of Erathia. It is the second map of a campaign whose scenarios are linked by story, and the author advises playing at the highest difficulty, though the listed setting is normal. Six players take part across two teams. At most one human can play, with the Rampart faction, against five computer-controlled Necropolis players. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. Rock covers about half the terrain, water about 28 percent, and rough ground the rest. The map has ten towns, fourteen heroes, 73 mines, three creature banks, and fourteen random artifacts. Wandering monsters include a Red Dragon and an Ancient Behemoth.
