Each player picks one faction: Chaos, the Empire, Orcs, Goblins, the monstrous hosts, Undead, Elves, or Kislev, with the Goblins and Orcs both playing as Stronghold. The goal is to defeat all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Rock covers about 38 percent of the map and water about 18 percent. Notable finds include the Grail, 57 mines, and artifacts such as the Crown of Dragontooth and the Orb of the Firmament, along with roaming Medusa Queens, Minotaur Kings, and Royal Griffins.
