Merlins Challenge — RoE

Merlin's Challenge is a medium-sized underground map measuring 72 by 72, built for two players at a Normal difficulty level. Each side is a human player with a random faction, and there are no teams or computer-only colors. The author's own description frames the premise as a contest among mages to win a place as Merlin's apprentice. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. Rock covers nearly half the terrain, with grass and swamp making up most of the rest and only a small share of water. The map holds five towns, roughly 84 wandering monster stacks, and about 20 mines. Players will also find 16 seer huts, 14 creature banks, four monoliths or portals, and a number of placed artifacts, including the Spellbinder's Hat, the Boots of Levitation, and several spellbooks.
