Masterland is an extra-large underground-capable map of 144 by 144 tiles, built for eight players who each hold one color and one faction: Inferno, Castle, Necropolis, Fortress, Rampart, Dungeon, Tower, and Stronghold. Eight human players can take part, with no teams and no computer-only colors. The difficulty is set to Expert. Rock covers about 41 percent of the surface, with subterranean ground, water, and grass making up most of the rest. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. The world holds 48 towns and 17 placed heroes, along with 130 mines, 14 creature banks, 14 monoliths and portals, and 8 seer huts. Wandering stacks of golems, elementals, wood elves, and hydras roam the land, and the Grail is placed somewhere on the map. The author describes eight territories, each under one color, all converging on a treasure-filled island.
