Mine Baron is an Extra Large surface map of 144 by 144 tiles for two players, both of whom can be human, with no teams. Each side starts with a random faction, and the difficulty is Impossible. Dirt covers most of the ground, with rock about a fifth and water about 14 percent. Victory requires flagging all 65 mines, and the game is lost if the 252-day limit expires. Three towns and one starting hero are placed, along with many guarded sites, creature banks, and wandering stacks, including several Leprechaun groups and three Azure Dragons. Fourteen artifacts lie on the map, among them Legion armor pieces and Mana items. The author notes that some mines can be opened only by the opponent, so progress depends partly on the rival's moves.
