Thousand Islands is an Extra Large map with an underground level, set on an archipelago where a sorcerer's spell makes every volcano erupt at once. Panicked survivors have lost their towns and do not know who their enemy is, and the player must stop the land from burning further. Four players share the map, with up to three human participants and Purple controlled by the computer. There are no teams, and every side starts with a random faction. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a side is eliminated once it loses all its towns and heroes. Rock covers about half the terrain and water about a third. Notable features include 14 towns, 54 mines, 32 monoliths and portals, 35 random artifacts, and two wandering Water Elemental stacks. The difficulty is set to Impossible.
