Rain Downpour is a small 36 by 36 underground map for one human player against a computer opponent, set on Impossible difficulty. The author's premise is that the hero, who wanted to bring back rain after a long dry spell, has been jailed and must escape or the rain will never return to these lands. Rock covers about 41 percent of the map, water about 31 percent, and grass about 15 percent. The player controls a Dungeon hero, while the computer plays a Fortress side in the Green color. There are no teams. Victory requires acquiring a specific artifact, and the game is lost if a specific hero dies. Hero levels are capped at 1. Notable features include the Orb of Driving Rain, the Crown of the Supreme Magi, eight seer huts, thirteen quest guards, and several timed events.
