Cave of Herfrex is a small underground map for one human player in Heroes of Might and Magic III, set on a 36 by 36 level at Normal difficulty. The story has the necromancer Zarakhadar gathering armies for an assault, leaving the player about three months to find and defeat him before a Dark Sun rises. Four players form three teams, with Red, Tan and Purple controlled by the computer, and the factions are Dungeon, two Strongholds and a Necropolis. Victory requires defeating one specific hero, while the game is lost if time runs out after 84 days. Notable features include four towns, six mines, seven monoliths and portals, and eleven timed events.
