War on the Canvas is an extra large map for eight players, all of whom can be human, with no team alliances. Each color starts with a different faction, from Necropolis and Rampart to Conflux and Castle, and victory requires defeating all enemies. A player is eliminated by losing every town and hero. The 144 by 144 battlefield is mostly grass, swamp, and rough ground, with water covering about an eighth of the tiles, and it includes an underground level. Thirty-five towns and ten starting heroes are placed on the map, along with 134 mines, 27 creature banks, and 11 seer huts. Notable finds include Armageddon's Blade and Angel Feather Arrows, and the Grail is also present. Difficulty is set to Normal.
