Dawn of the Elementals is a large Shadow of Death map of 108 by 108 tiles, with an underground level and an expert difficulty rating. Its story follows a ruler's son who must emerge from his late father's shadow and rebuild a declining realm while elemental forces begin to stir. Four players take part, but only one can be human, and the other three are computer-controlled. There are no teams. Blue plays Castle, Red plays Necropolis, Orange plays Dungeon, and Teal is random. Half the terrain is water, with rock, subterranean ground and snow making up most of the rest. Water Elementals roam the map in large numbers, joined by Storm Elementals, and the Golden Bow and Orb of Inhibition are placed as artifacts. Victory requires defeating a specific hero, and losing a specific hero ends the game.
