The Underworld is a large 108 by 108 underground map for Shadow of Death, played at Impossible difficulty. Eight players share it, with up to six controlled by humans, and the Orange and Pink colors are computer-only. Players form four teams. Red, Teal and Pink each have all nine factions available, while Blue and Tan play Castle, Green plays Rampart, Orange plays Stronghold and Purple plays Dungeon. The author's note describes islands, a trading guild, swamps, a guarded kingdom, forest guardians, warring coalitions and gods, with the goal of defeating the lord of the underworld. Rock covers 43 percent of the terrain and water 20 percent. Wandering Mummies and Arch Devils roam the map, and placed artifacts include the Golden Bow and Angel Feather Arrows. Victory requires capturing one specific town, and a player is eliminated after losing all towns and heroes.
