Eight players can take part, with up to seven human players, and the Orange color is reserved for the computer. There are no teams. The factions are Tower, Castle, Stronghold, Rampart, Inferno, and Necropolis, with Castle and Stronghold each appearing twice. The author describes creatures who once served the local people as having left the region, so players must rely on their own heroes and troops while rival lords feud again. Rock covers about half the terrain and water a quarter. Notable finds include seven named artifacts such as the Sword of Hellfire, 122 random artifacts, 49 mines, and seven Seer Huts. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes.
