Europe is an extra large 144 by 144 map with an underground level, set at Normal difficulty for the Shadow of Death version. Up to eight players can all be human, with no teams and no computer-only colors. Each player begins with one faction: Castle, Rampart, Necropolis, Inferno, Dungeon, Stronghold, Tower, or Conflux. The description says only one civilization should survive, so the goal is to conquer the rest. A player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Rock covers about half the land, water about a quarter, and dirt most of the remainder. The map holds 17 towns, 75 mines, 11 creature banks, and 10 monoliths and portals, plus 16 random artifacts. Twelve Water Elemental stacks roam the waters, and an Endless Sack of Gold is among the placed artifacts.
