The backdrop is a two-century conflict between Heaven and Hell over the land of Ramlania, and players pick a side, including the neutral options. The terrain is mostly rock, grass, and lava, with about eleven percent water. The map holds 28 towns and 124 mines, with wandering stacks such as Vampire Lords and War Unicorns, and several named artifacts, including Armageddon's Blade, are placed across it. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player is eliminated after losing every town and hero.
