Tan plays as Necropolis and Teal as Fortress, while Red and Blue receive random factions. There are no fixed teams. The map is rated hard and aims to be won by defeating every enemy, while a player loses once all of their towns and heroes are gone. Its rocky terrain covers about 45 percent of the surface, with water at roughly 21 percent and lava near 11 percent. Wandering monsters include numerous Ogres, several Minotaur Kings, and a few Hydras and Greater Basilisks, and the dwellings offer a varied roster of creatures. Players can also find an assortment of named artifacts, dozens of mines, creature banks, seer huts, and timed events scattered across the underground.
