Kingdom Wars is an extra large 144 by 144 map with an underground level, set for eight players on Normal difficulty, all of whom may be human, with no teams and no computer-only colors. Each player starts with a different faction, running from Castle and Rampart through to Dungeon. The goal is to defeat all enemies, and a player loses when all of their towns and heroes are gone. Terrain is split fairly evenly between rock, water, grass and subterranean ground, with water covering about a fifth of the map. The map holds 23 towns, 143 mines, 16 creature banks and four monoliths or portals. Wandering monsters include Dwarves, Battle Dwarves and Magogs, and the Grail is placed on the map. Artifacts such as Boots of Speed and the Crest of Valor are scattered about, along with a range of dwellings.
