Astral War is an extra large scenario measuring 144 by 144 tiles, with an underground level, built for Shadow of Death at the Impossible difficulty. Eight players share two teams, and at most one of them can be human, so the other seven seats are computer-controlled and draw on Conflux, Inferno, Necropolis, Fortress, and Tower strongholds. Victory requires eliminating every opponent, while the scenario is lost if time runs out on day 336. Rock covers nearly half the terrain. The map holds 18 towns, 45 mines, 43 creature banks, and 14 monoliths and portals. Seven heroes begin on the map, the Grail is placed within it, and artifacts such as the Angelic Alliance and the Hourglass of the Evil Hour are scattered across the land.
