The Archipelago of Whimsy is an extra-large, 144 by 144 map for eight players, each controlling one of the eight standard factions, with no teams and no computer-only colors. It includes an underground level, and the setting is a chain of islands where the gods have abandoned the land and heroes must win their favor back. Water covers about 38 percent of the surface, with rock making up most of the rest. Victory comes from building a Grail structure, and a player is eliminated after losing all towns and heroes. Across the map, 32 towns and 64 heroes are placed, joined by wandering elemental and dragon stacks, a set of placed Orbs and Tomes, and the Grail itself. Mines, seer huts, creature banks, and many monoliths and portals are scattered throughout.
