The author's note frames it as a contest between two archers, with the king offering the most prestigious title to whoever wins, and the outcome left to the player. Terrain is mostly grass and rock, with water covering about a tenth of the board and some rough ground. Victory requires defeating all enemies, while the game is lost if time runs out after 280 days. The map holds 12 towns, 21 heroes, 37 mines, and 12 creature banks, along with many wandering monster stacks, dwellings such as the Green Dragon and Angel, and a range of placed artifacts.
