Alternative World is a large underground map of 108 by 108 tiles, rated expert, for four players with room for only one human. The other three colors are computer-controlled, and there are no teams. The human slot plays Rampart, while the computer opponents play Inferno, Castle and Necropolis. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. Rock covers about 43 percent of the map, with water near 21 percent and smaller shares of lava and grass. The author calls it a straightforward challenge, where gathering creatures, artifacts and towns matters and rivals compete for the same prizes. Notable features include 22 towns, 48 mines, 25 creature banks, and wandering monsters such as a Black Dragon, a Pit Lord and a Diamond Golem.
