Absorbing War is a medium 72 by 72 map for Shadow of Death, set partly on an underground level and rated expert. Six players can take part, with up to four controlled by humans, and the Orange and Teal players are computer-only. No teams are set, so each of the six factions plays alone: Tower, Castle, Rampart, Dungeon, Necropolis, and Inferno. The map's premise is four lords fighting each other for peace, and the description asks whether that peace is worth its cost. The terrain is mostly dirt, grass, rock, and lava, with very little water. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses after losing every town and hero. Across 14 towns and 9 starting heroes, the map includes 61 mines, 10 creature banks, 5 seer huts, the Grail, and strong wandering stacks such as Archangels and Gold Dragons.
