Eight players are placed into seven teams, but only one slot is for a human and the other seven are computer-controlled. The factions are Castle, two Ramparts, Tower, Necropolis, Fortress, Stronghold, and Dungeon. The description frames the story as one of fate, war, and betrayal that reaches the player too, and advises choosing gold or resources as the starting bonus. Roughly a fifth of the land is water, with much rough terrain and swamp. The map holds 48 towns, 43 heroes, the Grail, 21 monoliths and portals, and 31 timed events. Victory and defeat both depend on a specific hero.
