Great Journeys of Middle-earth is an Extra Large underground map for In the Wake of Gods, rated Hard and set in a fourth age inspired by Tolkien's world. It covers 144 by 144 tiles, with rock and grass each covering roughly a third of the land and water about 13 percent. Seven players take part, up to four of them human, while Tan, Orange and Teal are computer-only, grouped into four teams. The factions are Stronghold, Castle, Rampart, Dungeon, Tower and Inferno, the last shared by two players. Victory requires acquiring a specific artifact, and a player is defeated by losing all towns and heroes. Ten towns, 52 mines and a Grail among the placed artifacts give the map plenty to contest, and wandering Pit Lords and a Medusa Queen roam its paths.
