The War of Peoples and Orcs is an Extra Large map of 144 by 144 tiles for the Shadow of Death expansion, with an underground level and a Normal difficulty setting. It hosts eight players in six teams, with up to five of them human-controlled; Purple, Teal and Pink are computer-only. Factions include Castle, Stronghold, Rampart, Tower, Necropolis and Conflux, spread across the colors. Victory comes from defeating all enemies, while a player loses once all towns and heroes are gone. Rock covers most of the terrain, with grass, water and rough ground making up the rest. The map contains 30 towns and 20 starting heroes, along with 35 mines, 12 seer huts, quest guards, creature banks and timed events. Wandering Halflings, Nomads and Boars are common, and several artifacts are placed around the map.
