The Strongholds is an Extra Large 144 by 144 map for Heroes of Might and Magic III: In the Wake of Gods, with underground levels and Normal difficulty. Three players take part, but only one can be human, and the Green player is the only non-computer slot. Tan plays Stronghold, Green plays Rampart, and Teal holds Necropolis and Fortress. The story centers on Krewlod, where Crag Hack has been removed and an unknown, dangerous new king sends forces against the humans. Terrain is mostly rock, subterranean, swamp, and grass, with no water. The map has 12 towns and 26 heroes, plus wandering Gremlins, Gnoll Marauders, and Liches, and artifacts such as the Centaur's Axe. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes.
