Sword & Bottle of Spell is a large six-player map of 108 by 108 tiles, played on the surface with no underground level, and rated for expert play. Up to six humans can take part, with no teams and no computer-only colors. The factions in play are Castle, Necropolis, Dungeon, Stronghold, Tower, Rampart, Fortress and Conflux, spread unevenly across the six colors. Water covers about a fifth of the map, with large areas of sand, rough ground and subterranean terrain. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses once all towns and heroes are gone. Scattered across the land are wandering dragons, Naga Queens, Ice Elementals, Zealots, a Rogue, sixty mines, twenty-three creature banks, twenty-four monoliths and portals, and the Grail.
