Rebellion is a medium-sized map measuring 72 by 72 tiles, played on the surface rather than underground. It supports three players, though only one seat can be taken by a human, with the Blue and Tan players controlled by the computer. Each side plays on its own with no teams. The Red player's faction is random, Blue fields Inferno, and Tan fields Stronghold. Victory comes from defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. The landscape is mostly grass, dirt, lava and rough ground, with about seven percent water. Ten towns, 48 random monster stacks, and wandering Lizard Warrior and Chaos Hydra stacks add to the fighting. Notable finds include ten named artifacts such as the Centaur's Axe and the Shield of the Yawning Dead, 15 random artifacts, 30 mines, and two creature banks. The author describes it simply as a large battle.
