Old World is an extra large underground-enabled map measuring 144 by 144 tiles, built for eight players who can all be human, with no teams and no computer-only colors. Each seat starts with a different faction, from Inferno and Castle to Necropolis and Rampart, and the rating is Expert. Victory comes from defeating every enemy, and a player loses once all towns and heroes are gone. Rock covers about 43 percent of the terrain, with water near 22 percent, snow around 9 percent and grass about 7 percent. The map holds 24 towns and 16 heroes, along with wandering stacks of Battle Dwarves, Grand Elves, Power Liches, Medusa Queens, Master Genies, Zealots, Arch Mages and Horned Demons. Ten artifacts are placed by hand, including Angel Wings and Titan's Gladius, alongside nine random artifacts, 56 mines, ten monoliths and portals, and two creature banks.
