Mortal Combat is a large underground map measuring 108 by 108, built for Shadow of Death and set at Expert difficulty. It supports three players, with only one human slot, and two of the sides are computer-only, Red and Green. Blue and Red form the two teams. Factions in play include Castle, Rampart, Tower, Stronghold, and Fortress for Blue, Inferno, Necropolis, and Dungeon for Red, and Inferno for Green. Winning requires defeating a specific hero, while a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. The terrain is mostly rock, dirt, grass, and rough ground, with a small share of water. Across the 26 towns and 20 placed heroes, the map offers 58 mines, 51 creature banks, 36 monoliths and portals, and the Grail. Wandering Firebirds and Faerie Dragons are the most common roaming stacks, and artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade and the Cards of Prophecy are scattered about.
