Eight players, all of whom can be human, form two teams, and each player controls one of the Castle, Tower, Inferno, Stronghold, Rampart, Fortress, Necropolis, or Dungeon factions. The author's description paraphrases the idea that war looks glorious to many young men but is really hellish. Water covers about a quarter of the land, with grass, swamp, and rough ground making up most of the rest. Dragons, elementals, a Phoenix, and a Grail are scattered across the map, along with many artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes.
