Middleage is an extra large underground map of 144 by 144 tiles, set at Normal difficulty for up to seven human players split into three teams. Every player begins as a Castle, and the map recreates the real world, so each side starts in Europe as one of the great powers of 1500 and tries to conquer the rest. Rock covers the largest share of the terrain, water about a quarter, and grass and subterranean ground also appear. A player wins by defeating all enemies and loses by losing every town and hero. The map holds 48 towns, 139 mines, and 14 monoliths and portals, along with wandering stacks of Pit Lords, Efreet Sultans, and Giants, and artifacts such as the Cape of Velocity and the Cornucopia.
