Middle Earth is an extra large underground map measuring 144 by 144, rated Hard, for three players, with up to two human participants and the Tan color controlled by the computer. There are no teams. Red plays Necropolis, Blue plays Rampart, and Tan holds both Tower and Stronghold. To win, a player must transport a specific artifact, the ring, while a player loses once all of their towns and heroes are gone. Rock covers about 43 percent of the terrain, with dirt at 22 percent, water at 10 percent and grass at 9 percent. The map includes four towns, nine heroes, 27 mines, two seer huts, one creature bank and seven timed events, plus wandering monsters such as ogres and green dragons, and artifacts including the Dragon Scale Armor and the Tome of Earth Magic.
