Overview
Written from the facts in this map's file
"By Side Paths" is a large underground map measuring 108 by 108 tiles, built for the In the Wake of Gods expansion at Normal difficulty. Five players compete across four teams, and only one seat is meant for a human, with the Purple Necropolis player as the human-capable slot while the Red, Tan, Green, and Orange players are computer-controlled. The factions are Castle, Stronghold, Fortress, Conflux, and Necropolis. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. The map is mostly rock, grass, and subterranean terrain, with very little water. The author suggests that charging straight ahead leads to defeat, so a more patient approach is needed. Highlights include 19 towns, the Grail, 64 random artifacts, and placed artifacts such as the Speculum and the Cards of Prophecy.
