Оберон is a medium underground map of 72 by 72 tiles, built for eight players with a Hard difficulty rating and three teams. Every seat can be taken by a human, and each color starts with a different town: Dungeon, Inferno (twice), Stronghold, Tower, Fortress, Necropolis and Conflux. The terrain is mostly rock, subterranean ground, grass and lava, with a small share of water. Scattered across the map are seven towns, five pre-placed heroes, twenty-eight mines, sixteen creature banks and a number of dwellings guarded by strong creatures like Pit Fiends and Beholders. Players win by eliminating every enemy, and they lose once they have no towns and no heroes left. Artifacts such as the Ring of Vitality and the Skull Helmet are placed on the map, and the wandering monsters include Hobgoblins and Skeleton Warriors.
