World of Mermaids is a large 108 by 108 surface map for four players, all of whom can be human, with no teams and no underground level. Each player controls one of four factions: Stronghold, Castle, Fortress, or Rampart, and each begins with a town. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses once every town and hero is gone. Grass covers almost half the land, water about a fifth, with rough ground and swamp making up the rest. Wandering Haspid groups are common, alongside satyrs, halflings, and rogues. The map has 23 mines, 20 creature banks, and one timed event. Three artifacts are placed on the map: the Bowstring of the Unicorn's Mane, the Clover of Fortune, and the Vial of Lifeblood. Difficulty is set to hard.
