The Emerald Island is a large Heroes of Might and Magic III map measuring 108 by 108 tiles, with an underground level and a Grail structure for the standard victory condition. It is set for eight players on the Impossible difficulty, with up to two humans, and the remaining six colors are controlled by the computer. Players form seven teams, and the factions include Stronghold, Rampart, Necropolis, Tower, Fortress, and Dungeon, with Green and Teal assigned at random. Terrain is mostly rock, with water covering about a quarter of the surface and smaller areas of grass and sand. Among the features are 33 towns, 18 mines, 52 creature banks, and a Grail placed on the map. Players lose if they lose all their towns and heroes. The map also includes several placed artifacts, such as the Titan's Gladius and the Thunder Helmet.
