Border is an Extra Large map of 144 by 144 tiles with an underground level, set on the Impossible difficulty for six players, all of whom can be human. There are no teams, and each color is assigned one faction: Tower, Rampart, Necropolis, Castle, Fortress, or Stronghold. The description tells of six ancient states, all powerful, that never attacked one another because each had strong defenses. Rock covers about half the land, with grass, lava, and dirt making up most of the rest, and there is no water. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing all towns and heroes. The map holds 26 towns, 92 mines, 14 creature banks, and 25 monoliths and portals, plus placed artifacts such as Armageddon's Blade and the Cornucopia.
