Overview
Written from the facts in this map's file
Legend of Heroes is a Shadow of Death map on an extra large 144 by 144 board with an underground level, set to Impossible difficulty. It supports eight players, two of them computer-only, so up to six humans can take part, grouped into seven teams. The factions in play are Tower, Castle, Fortress, Rampart, Necropolis, Stronghold, Dungeon and Conflux, with one color combining three of them. Rock covers about 36 percent of the land, with grass, water and swamp making up most of the rest. The map holds 35 towns, 104 heroes, 138 mines and the Grail, along with artifacts such as the Angelic Alliance and the Crown of Dragontooth. Victory requires defeating all enemies, and a player loses by losing every town and hero. The accompanying verse reflects on how old tales keep being retold while new heroes rise in each age.
